Lyrics

I saw a man who
looked like the man I love,
he tilted back
when facing the gleaming sun,
as he does…

I had this glimpse
one noontime on Polk and Hayes,
and for a second that man had it all,
the rush, the craze
that I only feel for my man!

Then I hurried right along Market Street,
utterly embarrassed by what I did,
'cause the stranger turned around
trying to see
where the heat was coming from…
what could it be?

Later that night
he couldn't sleep,
'cause the heat pervaded
all through this city…
San Francisco in flames
all ‘cause my man!

The fire news
got soon to the man I love,
he smiled, he laughed,
he said you did not do that
crazy act!

Was like being back
in April 1906,
even Caruso left town,
crumpled down
as no man's land
when the earthquake
ripped through the ground!

Then I hurried up the slope,
Taylor Street was the highest hill
from where I could see,
the whole city turning red.
smoking peaks…

had I travelled back to…
how could this be?

Later that night
he couldn't sleep,
'cause the heat pervaded
all through this city…
San Francisco in flames
all ‘cause my man!
San Francisco in flames
all ‘cause my man!
